The inspirational leader of Brazil’s Workers Party, commonly known as Lula, was today released from prison. He was imprisoned on ginned-up charges of corruption, the real intention being to keep him from running for the nation’s Presidency, which he likely would have won. On this same day, Seattle City Council member Kshama Sawant, the high-profile and outspoken socialist member of Seattle’s City Council, swept past the early lead of her Chamber of Commerce/Amazon-funded opponent, to take what is an unbreakable lead. As has happened before, the later votes in Council races have a strong leftward tilt; why this is, someone should really investigate. Comrades, enough with the drama…couldn’t you just vote earlier so we don’t have to get so excited?
In celebration of these two welcome developments on this day, enjoy Billy Bragg’s rendition of “The Red Flag.”
